The holidays are a wonderful time to truly make yourself at home. This is especially true if you moved into a new house this year. Whether this is your first year in a home of your own or you upgraded to a larger house this Summer, the holidays are a great time to decorate and bring your personality into your home. Bring your existing holiday decor and a few new favorites together at your house to make the most of your space and create a home where you can host the holidays or celebrate with your immediate family.
When you’re decorating your new house for the holidays, keep in mind the way that you’ll entertain if you’re allowing guests into your house this year. If you will use the kitchen, dining room, and great room throughout the evening, those rooms should be festive and invite conversation among your guests. If you’re keeping it casual and only using the kitchen and breakfast room, you can decorate your formal spaces with decor that you can leave in place.
Create a path to the space where you want your guests to spend their time using decor items. Add a wreath to your front door and a seasonal “Welcome” mat to your doorstep if you have them. If you drape your staircase in garland, add door swags to mark the doorways of your main floor and kid space upstairs, your friends and family will know where they are welcome. You can even add a sprinkle of holiday decor to your powder room with a seasonal towel and soap dish.
Let your inner decorator shine this holiday season. This holiday season will probably feel a little different outside in the world, so it will be extra special to make it feel like the holidays at home.
